Easy Guitar Lesson
There is an easy way and a hard way to do just about everything. The purpose of the Easy Guitar Lesson site is to get you started in the right direction, save you time, and avoid unecessary headaches in the process.
I am not going to sugar-coat this. Depending on what you want to achieve, learning to play the guitar takes a lot of time and hard work. It is a process, a journey, a life-long journey. In running terms, think of it as a marathon, not a 100 meter sprint. Finding the best way to learn guitar is a key component to completing your desired journey.
Because of the challenges you are in for, it is important for you to have fun. Learn some cool riffs and sounds while you are mastering the difficult stuff. For me, fun is learning to sing the songs that I choose to play.
You can't go wrong with private lessons from a good, well organized, experienced instructor. Be prepared to put in several hours of practice time per hour of instruction time. Classes provided by local community colleges are also a great way to get started. The added incentive of getting a high grade can help keep your commitment level high. For long term, self-paced, ongoing progress that is economical and time efficient, it is hard to beat the convenience of DVD courses and online programs. Here are a few that I have found worth considering:
- Learn to Master Guitar, Expanded Edition – This is a comprehensive 20 DVD home training program that has won several awards for quality instruction and presentation. Known for being a well organized program covering all aspects of guitar.
- Jamorama Ultimate Guitar Kit , Deluxe or Standard Editions. Well organized program covering the whole process of learning the guitar, from strumming, muting and bending, to timing, reading music and playing songs. I have the online version of the Standard Edition which is a bargain for the price.
- Guitar Tricks, On-Line Guitar Lessons – The most extensive guitar training membership site available online. For those who have regular, disciplined practice schedules, this membership can help you specialize your training. You can try it out for free.
What would you like to achieve? Do you want to be a guitar player or a musician? Self taught guitar players are the ones who learn mostly from guitar tab and friends. They know that it is a life long journey to continuously improve their playing skills. Musicians on the other hand, have a higher level of commitment and passion. They take both a broader and deeper approach. They listen to and study all types of music. They are committed to a lifetime of hard work and discipline.
There are no right or wrong answers to these questions. It is an individual matter. You must examine your motivation as you plan your journey. Will you give up playing the guitar once your first class ends or you become "too busy?" Don't expect it to be as easy as Guitar Hero. You will need to develop dexterity and rhythm. And most important, you will need to take responsibility for your progress through hard work and discipline.
Hi, I'm Toby, from Arizona, relatively new to guitar, compared to my other lifelong hobbies. It's been a rewarding journey so far. I have found that mastering the guitar comes with many small steps, a boatload of patience, and good instruction. Good luck with your own journey.
